GLSS is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic I for on-going operations at Ft. Polk, LA. 

Military experience is a plus.

Job Descriptions:

The Aircraft Mechanic I repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components, including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills. Reads and interprets manufacturers' and airlines’ maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

Responsibilities:

  • Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Removes engines from aircraft using a hoist or forklift truck, disassembles and inspects parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, repairs or replaces defective engine parts, reassembles, and installs engines in aircraft.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories; performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • Service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.  
  • Specializes in work repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts as well as assemblies and specializes in engine repair.

     

     

Qualifications:

  • May require being license by the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • May require specialization in sheet metal, electric work, avionics, or other aircraft systems-related disciplines.
  • Must have a combination of two or more years of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty required to meet the assigned missions.
  • Must have two or more years of experience in troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulics engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems.

 

Additional Desired Experience: 

  • Requires a FAA license or equivalent military service school certificate of training in aviation maintenance.
  • Minimum of 150 hours of experience as a flight mechanic or crew chief, have previously qualified and served in such a capacity during military service, or have been trained using the applicable service training program modified to the contract requirements.
  • IAW DCMA INST 8210.1C, contractor flight mechanics (non-crewmembers).
  • Require a FAA 3rd Class or military class III flight physical annually.
