Job Title: System Engineer

Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $120000 - $140000 annually
Contractor Work Model: Onsite

Purpose:
As hands-on technical experts, Staff Systems Engineer and Principal Systems Engineer will apply extensive knowledge to design, test, maintain and enhance Rolling Stock systems solutions to ensure compliance to customer requirements. While both are two common roles, a Staff Engineer has technical expertise in a specific domain focusing more on technical implements, and a Principal Engineer has a broader scope of responsibilities. A Principal Engineer possesses not only technical leadership but also a strategic mindset, being able to align technical goals with business objects. Additionally, those expert engineers may lead others to solve complex technical problems and to strengthen the technical capabilities of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff & Principal):

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered across various systems.
• Participate in systems integration, project deliverables, associated sub-systems and validation of technical documentation in order to verify product and project compliance.
• Research new technologies and stay up-to-date with industry trends.
• Work with the Systems Engineering Manager to establish matters of best practice.
• Act as a mentor to other engineers, sharing their experience and fostering knowledge sharing to promote a culture of continuous learning among them.
• Help with special projects as assigned by Sr. Engineering Manager.

Additional Responsibilities (Principal Engineer):

• Oversee the design of complex technical projects which are typically company-wide initiatives.
• Drive technology innovation for multiple projects across the company working with Sr. Engineering Manager.
• Solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.
• Consistently involved in major work efforts of strategic importance, working directly with senior levels, often multidisciplinary in nature.
• Technical team leadership for Engineers; lead project teams to achieve milestones and objectives.
• May set technical direction and contribute to the development of functional strategy.

Basic Qualifications (Staff & Principal):

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical or Computer Science Engineering required.
• 10 years of experience in electrical, mechanical and systems engineering; experience working in Rolling Stock required.
• 10 years of experience in supplier management of railway vehicle subsystems; experience including working with the U.S. or European suppliers.
• 10 years of experience in requirement management of the (sub) systems of Rolling Stock.
• 10 years of Experience in troubleshooting Rolling Stock subsystems using hardware and mechanical drawings and circuit and schematics and various tools such as PTU, etc.
• 10 years of experience with supervising Railway RAMS engineering including V&V.
• Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
• A strong determination to complete projects which may span several years.
• Excellent schedule and task management skills, and proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CAD or related engineering software.
• Ability to travel to various domestic and international destinations.

Additional Qualifications (Principal Engineer):

• Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical or Computer Science Engineering preferred.
• 15 years of experience working in Rolling Stock.
• Ability to mentor others from technical standpoint and to effectively articulate complex ideas to influence others through well-reasoned explanations.
• Keen mindset to envision and execute process improvement.
