Responsibilities:
- Perform general maintenance, technical maintenance, welding, and machining of equipment at facility.
- Disassemble, repair, and install equipment across various plant systems including boilers, fuel, ash, limestone, air, water treatment, turbines, and generators.
- Conduct shaft alignment using reverse indication and laser equipment.
- Lay out, set up, and machine components with tolerances down to .001" using blueprint or design drawings.
- Fabricate parts from iron, bronze, metals, and synthetic materials such as rubber, nylon, and Teflon.
- Utilize precision tools like micrometers and dial indicators for measurements.
- Design and build custom tools and modifications for plant equipment and processes.
- Fit, scrape, and install bearings, and rig heavy equipment for maintenance and installation tasks.
- Erect scaffolding, install piping, and perform welding using electric arc, TIG, MIG, and oxyacetylene techniques.
- Perform pressure vessel repairs adhering to ASME and boiler code standards.
- Cut, thread, bend, and install piping; repair and maintain valves, fittings, and gaskets.
- Maintain chemical storage tanks, pumps, piping, and related equipment.
- Perform rough carpentry and operate mobile equipment including forklifts, cranes, and skid-steers.
- Inspect, repair, and replace plant equipment, including cloth or metal expansion joints, and perform surface preparation for painting and welding.
- Pull cables, perform painting, and assist engineering with data collection, hardware installation, and plant improvements.
- Manage tool inventories, enforce safety procedures, and lead or participate in improvement teams.
- Handle hazardous materials, ensure proper labeling, and maintain waste storage areas.
- Develop safety and training materials, write plant procedures, and oversee contractor activities.
- Use CMMS to log maintenance, identify failure root causes, and implement modifications.
- Install and repair conveyor belts, assist in fuel preparation, and support plant operations when needed.
- Perform lockout/tagout procedures and ensure yard and plant cleanliness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma with technical, apprenticeship, or journeyman-level experience.
- Completion of recognized apprenticeship or at least three years' journeyman experience; five years if relying solely on on-the-job training.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance, welding, machining, and blueprint reading.
- Ability to operate and repair plant machinery, and perform precision measurements.
- Experience with pressure vessel repairs, piping, and heavy equipment operation.
- Physical ability for heavy work, and adaptability to shift work, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs.
- Supplemental training in print reading, mechanical theory, technical writing, and equipment operation is desirable.
