Overview
Leading pharmaceutical company looking for an entry level Lab Animal Technician I. Ideal candidates should have at least High School Diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in an animal research facility or veterinary practice. Additionally, no known allergies to animals.
Responsibilities
- Perform functions in support of AR operations in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, guidelines, and policies on the use of laboratory animals.
- Assist in the care and enrichment of routine and specialized animal colonies, including cleaning and maintenance of facilities and equipment such as cage sanitization and preparation for use.
- Handle animals, observe for abnormal findings, report issues, and adhere to veterinary directives while monitoring room conditions.
- Operate and maintain animal facility equipment including cage/rack washers and environmental monitoring devices.
- Assist in training team members and participate in quality review of records.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, equipment, and methodologies to improve animal programs.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of tasks related to animal husbandry and facility maintenance.
- Verify training proficiency in general husbandry, facility maintenance, and equipment use.
- Maintain current LOS training records and AALAS registry standing.
- Participate in safety standards and comply with applicable policies, SOPs, and regulations (e.g., USDA, FDA GLPs).
- Work effectively within a team environment, demonstrating communication, coordination, cooperation, and personal accountability.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in an animal research facility or veterinary practice; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in animal science or related field preferred.
- AALAS certification is highly desirable.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) are highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), squatting, pushing/pulling, reaching, and standing for long periods.
- No known allergies to animals.
- Required use of PPE including uniforms, respiratory, eye, hearing, hand, and foot protection.
- Availability to work scheduled weekends and holidays.
