Controls Specialist – Data Center Project

Overview

System One is seeking experienced Controls Specialists to support a major data center construction and commissioning project in Abilene, Texas. This role is ideal for candidates with strong hands-on experience in controls, automation, I&C checkout, and commissioning within industrial, manufacturing, or mission-critical environments.

You will work onsite with a multidisciplinary team ensuring that building control systems—including HVAC, electrical, lighting, and building automation—are correctly installed, tested, and optimized for performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and commission control systems for HVAC, electrical, lighting, and building automation

• Perform I/O checkout, functional testing, and verification of field devices and control logic

• Diagnose and resolve control system performance issues during commissioning

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust system parameters for optimal functionality

• Interpret and work from technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics

• Document test results, configuration changes, and commissioning reports

• Collaborate with engineers, construction teams, and other technicians to ensure project milestones are met

• Maintain compliance with safety standards and company policies

Qualifications

Required:

• 3 years of experience with control systems, automation, commissioning, or instrumentation

• Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, or building automation systems

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics

• Experience performing I/O checkout and system startup

• Proficiency with control platforms such as PLC, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, or HMI

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work onsite in a construction or mission-critical environment

Preferred:

• Technical degree or certification in electrical, mechanical, or control systems (or equivalent experience)

• Experience in data centers, industrial facilities, or other complex infrastructure projects
