Chemist

Job Title: Chemist
Location: Darien, CT
Type: Contract
Compensation: $25-30/hr
Hours: Mon- Fri 8am- 5pm

Responsibilities

• Support R&D formulators to achieve their goals by learning company processes and chemical hygiene guidelines
• Perform proper batching techniques, record keeping, cleaning, organization, and disposal processes
• Request standard tests and reviews such as stability, salon, PET
• Follow all SOPs and PPE guidelines
• Formulate and batch hair-related products under supervision of Senior Chemist or Manager
• Document batches with details of reasons, notes, specifications, and test results in laboratory notebooks and formulation software
• Conduct stability testing, track results, update charts, and summarize data for review
• Coordinate and submit salon testing, laboratory efficacy tests, and write detailed reports
• Coordinate microbiological and analytical testing as needed
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues on project progress and issues
• Gain knowledge of laboratory equipment used for evaluating product attributes
• Assist in maintaining laboratory raw materials, glassware, supplies, and waste removal
• Maintain an organized, clean, and tidy laboratory workspace
• Handle additional projects and duties as assigned
• Interact with raw material vendors and industry representatives as required
• Collaborate with departments such as Marketing, Manufacturing, QA, and Salon Services
• Read industry literature related to new assignments and technologies

Requirements

• BA, BS, or MS in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or related field; four-year Science degree also considered
• Minimum 0-1 years of industry experience (Bachelor or Master degree)
• Ability to follow SOPs and PPE guidelines
• Strong documentation and record-keeping skills
• Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing procedures
• Effective communication skills for collaboration and reporting
• Organizational skills to maintain a clean and efficient workspace
