Assistant Engineering Technician – Electrical Substation Drafter
Location: Substation office – Onsite 5 days per week
Schedule: Full-time, onsite
Position Overview
Under close supervision, the Assistant Engineering Technician provides technical support to engineering teams by performing tasks that require a basic understanding of engineering principles and drafting practices. This role utilizes digital design tools and software such as CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling to assist in the creation, modification, and maintenance of technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
The position supports electrical substation design projects and will focus primarily on drafting and documentation. Experience with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and site layouts is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Assist engineering teams with the development and modification of technical drawings and design documents
Utilize AutoCAD and other design software to prepare and update project deliverables
Support the maintenance and organization of project documentation and drawing files
Participate in evaluating drafting methods and workflows to help improve efficiency and quality
Perform minor calculations such as material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to reduce errors and conflicts
Follow established drafting standards, procedures, and document control practices
Support continuous improvement initiatives and adapt to evolving project requirements
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and project team members
Required Qualifications
1–2 years of experience using Autodesk AutoCAD
Experience with electrical drafting, schematics, wiring diagrams, or substation layouts preferred
Bentley MicroStation experience is a plus
Basic understanding of engineering and drafting principles
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Ability to learn and apply drafting standards and procedures
Effective organizational and communication skills
Education & Experience
Typically requires a minimum of 1 year of related drafting or technical support experience
Relevant technical training or coursework in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred
