Position Summary

We are seeking two dependable Archaeological Field Technicians to support the Ward County Connector Project. This is a short-term field assignment mobilizing on September 27 and demobilizing on October 4. There may be an opportunity for approximately one additional day of work, but candidates should not anticipate a significant extension.

Candidates with previous archaeological experience in North Dakota or the Northern Plains are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in archaeological fieldwork under the direction of a Crew Chief or Field Director.

• Conduct pedestrian survey and assist with identifying archaeological sites, features, and cultural materials.

• Assist with excavation, testing, screening, and other field activities as assigned.

• Accurately complete field notes, site forms, maps, photographs, and other project documentation.

• Identify, collect, label, and organize cultural materials according to established procedures.

• Use GPS units, tablets, or other field equipment to record locations and project data.

• Follow project-specific field methods, safety procedures, and environmental requirements.

• Communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, landowners, and project representatives.

• Maintain productivity and documentation standards throughout the assignment.

• Work outdoors for extended periods in varying terrain and weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field preferred.

• Completion of an archaeological field school preferred.

• Previous professional cultural resource management or archaeological field experience strongly preferred.

• Northern Plains or North Dakota archaeological experience is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with pedestrian survey, excavation, field documentation, artifact identification, and GPS equipment.

• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a field crew.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.

• Reliable, professional, and able to commit to the full project schedule.

• Must be available to mobilize on Sunday, September 27.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and hike for extended periods over uneven terrain.

• Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, dig, screen soil, and perform repetitive field tasks.

• Ability to carry field equipment and supplies.

• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather and environmental conditions.

• Ability to safely complete physically demanding fieldwork for the duration of the assignment.

Schedule

The assignment is expected to run from September 27 through October 4, 2026. Candidates must be available for the entire project period. There is limited potential for approximately one additional day of work.
