POSITION SUMMARY
A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is an advance practice registered nurse that has completed an advanced training regimen and has passed a national certification exam. The CRNA maintains this certification by completing 40 hours of continuing education every two years. A CRNA is certified to administer anesthetics and monitor anesthetized patients during surgical, obstetric and radiological procedures.
Essential Duties
Evaluates the patient pre-operatively by interviewing and examining the patient, assessing data, and selecting appropriate anesthesia plan.
Administers anesthetics in accordance with clinical privileges delineated.
Monitors, interprets, and evaluates information derived from monitors intra-operatively on the patient of any age group and physical status, protects patient’s life functions and vital organs.
Performs medical non-surgical procedures, e.g. IV insertion, intubation, hemodynamic and electrolyte balance, airway management in routine and acute medical situations.
Monitors and evaluates patients post-operatively.
Utilizes patient controlled anesthesia (PCA) to alleviate post-op and/or labor pain by using IV or epidural PCA.
Maintains anesthesia in a safe operating condition.
Maintains accounting of controlled substances.
Maintains and administers pain clinic procedures. Maintains and keeps current on anesthesia equipment.
Participates in preparing and maintaining an annual budget for the Anesthesia department.
Performance Improvement: Responsible for participation in SHCs PI program, including development and review of internal department quality monitors, tracking and reporting quarterly PI findings in a timely manner, reporting all patient quality issues, and facilitating on-going education for staff regarding their role in the PI process.
-Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetic credentials required.
-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required.
-Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certification required.
-Maintain active privileges with the SHC Medical Staff.
