Job Description

Exercise some judgment to comply with instructions and established procedures in driving trucks for various departments with Facilities.

Education and Experience

A high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

One year of experience in CDL driving. Valid CDL driver’s license; ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.

Responsibilities

Drive trucks for various departments including, Custodial and Facilities Services. Deliver and pick up mail, materials, food compost, supplies, tools, cleaning supplies, etc. Load and deliver grounds equipment, athletic and Dome equipment, pick up steel and deliver steel for recycling, Haul concrete parking beams. Haul stone, topsoil and blacktop. Pickup and deliver dumpsters. Operate various pieces of equipment to load and haul snow. Maintain records of purchase, pick-ups, deliveries, etc. Coordinate and monitor office moves, interior moves and special event moves, Assist in the repair of catch basins, Assist groundskeepers, Keep truck clean, report malfunctions and have it serviced when needed. Maintain work areas and vehicle in safe, sanitary and efficient operating conditions. Remove trash to proper areas. Observe safety regulations and maintain highest standards of sanitation.

May assist in departmental operations when not driving truck, i.e., sort mail, clean, sweep and act as helper.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing 85% – 100% of the shift
  • Frequent bending at the waist; able to bend to below the knee
  • Frequent stooping and/or crouching
  • Frequent walking back and forth between loading dock, stock room, plant, warehouses etc. carrying items weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck, and torso
  • Full range of arm movement (extension, twisting, and bending of arm and shoulder, reaching overhead)
  • Able to operate vehicles with manual transmission; able to get into and out of truck cab unassisted
  • Frequently lift, load and unload, items that weigh up to 100 lbs; able to lift from overhead items weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Able to push and pull carts/pallets carrying up to 500 lbs.
  • Wrist and finger dexterity (i.e. ability to use box cutters, scissors, pens; fine motor and tactile skills, use computers and touch screens)
  • May work in conditions of elevated heat and cold, and outside in inclement weather
  • Periodically work on ladders or at other elevated heights

Tools/Equipment

Safely operate and maintain all the listed items with proficiency. Each piece of equipment requires separate training in its operation and function. The Truck Drivers may be asked to operate multiple pieces of equipment in one day. Given the cost of the equipment and the investment, a tremendous amount of responsibility is placed on the Grounds persons.
