Job Description

The School of Architecture seeks a temporary Academic Operations Manager for the New York Architecture Academic program at the Fisher Center. The role entails interfacing with members of our vibrant academic community including a cohort of 20-30 undergraduate students, a faculty of 6-8 architecture professors and instructors, invited critics, lecturers and guests, mentors from across the professional landscape of architecture in New York City, and the facility’s operations team. The temporary Academic Operations Manager works closely with the Architecture Program Director who is based at the Fisher Center and collaborates remotely with multiple team members who are based on the University’s main campus. The role is supported locally by three part-time student assistants who they oversee directly. The person in this role will be involved in the development of architecture operations and programming including workshops, public events, and exhibitions of student work. They will also support the program’s mentorship and possibly internship programs, which connect students to a vast range of architecture and design professionals across New York City. Finally, the role entails a range of administrative responsibilities which ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the program and are listed below.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Familiarity with the architecture profession or a related design field is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • An ideal candidate for this position would be highly motivated and self-directed individual who has high level organizational and management skills, and is able to work on multiple projects at once.
  • Requires creative problem solving and throughout knowledge of academic and administrative policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with students and faculty in an academic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Faculty and Students Support and Engagement – Serve as the primary point of contact for all program communications. Ensure faculty are prepared for their courses by coordinating logistical and instructional needs. Orient new hires, support with onboarding new student cohorts.
  • Mentorship Program – Serve as the primary liaison with partnering firms and students, support the director and faculty with reviewing student applications for admission to mentorship programs and manage all program communication for those.
  • Public Programming – Actively work on the program’s public programming which includes lectures, events, workshops and exhibitions. Manage logistics, promotional materials, and communications for all programming based on established protocols.
  • Academic Calendar – Organize the program’s academic calendar with input from the Program Director, the Director of Advising and Records and the Director of Operations for the Fisher Center. Oversee the implementation of the calendar, over the course of the semester, including booking classrooms, events scheduling, and setup needs.
  • Budget and Accounting – Support campus staff with processing payment requests for honoraria, catering fees, and other NYC program expenses. Share financial documentation with campus staff in order to support monthly expense reconciliation.
  • Technology – Liaise with School of Architecture IT for plotter and printers’ maintenance.
  • Student Assistants – Oversee the work of three undergraduate program assistants during the spring semester.
