What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Mental Health Clinician position at Syra Health?
Position Overview:
Syra Health is seeking a highly knowledgeable Clinical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide essential clinical expertise for the Washington State Behavioral Health Safety and Violence Prevention Training project. In this critical role, you will ensure all training content is clinically accurate, reflects evidence-based and trauma-informed practices, and complies with RCW 49.19.030 and RCW 71.05.720. The Clinical SME will collaborate closely with the Instructional Design/Content Lead and Project Manager to validate curriculum, contribute regional practice insights from both Eastern and Western Washington, and ensure the training effectively addresses real-world scenarios encountered by behavioral health professionals.
Please Note: While the state (HCA) will provide validation support, they will not perform active content review. Therefore, Syra Health requires a dedicated Clinical SME on our team to conduct hands-on content review, provide detailed feedback, and ensure clinical validation throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities

- Ensure training content aligns with RCW 49.19.030 requirements and incorporates current best practices in behavioral health safety.
- Provide regional insights on practice variations between Eastern Washington (e.g., rural settings, limited resources) and Western Washington (e.g., high-volume urban settings).
- Validate scenario-based assessments and case studies for clinical realism, relevance, and appropriateness.
- Participate in stakeholder collaboration sessions, offering a clinical perspective on workforce safety needs and implementation challenges.
- Analyze pilot testing feedback and provide clinical guidance for content refinements and improvements.
- Contribute to knowledge transfer documentation to ensure clinical accuracy is preserved in all future training updates.
- Advise on the integration of trauma-informed care principles and evidence-based crisis intervention strategies throughout the curriculum.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing, or a related behavioral health field.
- Licensure: Must possess an active, unrestricted clinical license in Washington State (e.g., LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, RN with psychiatric experience, or equivalent).
- Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of direct clinical experience in behavioral health settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in de-escalation techniques and violence prevention protocols within healthcare environments.
- Proven experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders.
- Strong familiarity with Washington State behavioral health regulations, practice standards, and safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience within the Washington State behavioral health system (e.g., community mental health centers, state hospitals, crisis services).
- In-depth knowledge of RCW 49.19.030, RCW 71.05.720 (the Marty Smith Law), and related legislation.
- Formal training or certification in crisis intervention (e.g., CPI, MANDT, or similar).
