POSTED ON 4/14/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/13/2026
OverviewWho We Are

Synergy Technical is a modern technology services firm specializing in cloud transformation, cybersecurity, AI enablement, and managed IT services. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Richmond, VA, we have grown into one of Microsoft’s most trusted partners, delivering secure, scalable, and innovative solutions to customers across all 50 states and more than 70 countries.

We operate with a lean, high‑ownership culture where people are empowered to solve complex problems, influence decisions, and directly impact customer outcomes. Our teams thrive in an environment built on trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and hands-on Senior Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting operations and provide clear financial visibility into the business.

This role is built for someone who doesn’t just report numbers—but understands them, challenges them, and uses them to drive better decisions. You will be responsible for ensuring financial accuracy across a hybrid business model that includes both project-based services and SaaS licensing, while delivering insights into margins, revenue performance, and cash flow.

This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. You will be expected to operate with a high level of ownership and accountability.

Key ResponsibilitiesCore Accounting & Close
  • Own and execute the monthly close process (timely, accurate, and repeatable)

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

  • Maintain the general ledger

  • Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accounts are clean and supportable

  • Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively—no surprises at month-end

  • Ensure proper revenue and cost recognition across both services and SaaS licensing

Services & SaaS Revenue Accounting
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition for project-based (time & materials / fixed fee) engagements

  • Ensure proper revenue and cost recognition for SaaS licensing (monthly vs. annual, upfront vs. ratable)

  • Understand and track deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, and associated liabilities

  • Align revenue recognition with billing structures and customer invoicing

  • Ensure cost of goods sold (COGS) for licensing is properly recorded and matched to revenue

Project & Margin Accounting
  • Analyze margins across projects, customers, service lines, and licensing

  • Partner with delivery and sales teams to ensure financial alignment (hours, billing, licensing costs)

  • Identify margin leakage across both services and SaaS and provide actionable recommendations

  • Understand utilization, billable vs. non-billable time, and impact on profitability

Financial Analysis & Reporting
  • Build and maintain monthly reporting packages for leadership

  • Provide clear insights into business performance (not just numbers)

  • Track and explain variances vs. prior periods and expectations

  • Support pricing decisions across both services and licensing deals

Cash Flow & Forecasting
  • Own cash flow forecasting and monitoring

  • Provide visibility into short- and mid-term cash position

  • Account for timing differences between licensing payments, customer billing, and collections

  • Identify risks early and recommend actions

Systems & Process Ownership
  • Ensure financial and project data are accurate and aligned across systems

  • Ensure project setup, billing, and time tracking align with financial reporting

  • Ensure licensing transactions are accurately reflected in financial records

  • Identify and implement process improvements as the business scales

  • Support audit readiness and maintain clean, organized financial records

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 4–8 years of accounting experience (public accounting or services/SaaS business preferred)

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation

  • Experience with both project-based accounting and SaaS revenue recognition

  • Familiarity with deferred revenue, accruals, and subscription-based billing models

  • Proven experience with balance sheet reconciliations and month-end close ownership

  • Strong Excel skills (comfortable building models and analyzing data)

Skills & Attributes
  • Extremely detail-oriented with a high standard for accuracy

  • Strong sense of ownership—takes responsibility for the numbers

  • Analytical thinker who can connect financials to business operations

  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, growing environment

  • Strong communicator—able to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders

  • Willing to dig in and solve problems, not just report them

What Success Looks Like
  • Month-end close is completed on time with clean, accurate financials

  • Balance sheet accounts (including deferred revenue and accruals) are fully reconciled with no lingering issues

  • Leadership trusts the numbers without needing to double-check them

  • Clear visibility into margins across services and SaaS licensing

  • Revenue and COGS are properly aligned with no surprises in profitability

  • Cash flow is predictable despite timing differences in licensing and services

  • Financial processes are scalable and continuously improving

  • You proactively identify issues before they become problems

About the Role

This role operates within a fast-paced, services-driven organization that also manages recurring SaaS revenue streams. The environment requires someone who can balance precision in accounting with a strong understanding of how the business actually operates.
