They are bringing on their first dedicated Data Engineer to take the reins of their data ecosystem. If you love the challenge of building from the ground up—with direct ownership, zero legacy red tape, and the autonomy to design systems the right way—this role was carved out for you.

The Role

In this position, you will be the foundational architect of our client’s data infrastructure. You will design, build, and optimize high-throughput data pipelines and robust storage layers using an AWS-native stack.

Working alongside forward-thinking software engineers and executive stakeholders, you will turn complex raw data flows into reliable, production-grade assets that fuel core platform features and strategic decision-making.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Architect & Build: Design and maintain scalable, production-grade ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue, Step Functions, S3, and modern storage frameworks like Apache Hudi.
• Data Modeling: Lead schema design and dimensional modeling within Amazon Redshift to support downstream analytics, reporting, and core application workflows.
• Storage & Cataloging: Structure and optimize S3 data storage while maintaining enterprise-level schema discovery via AWS Glue Data Catalog.
• Data Reliability & Governance: Build proactive alerting, logging, and validation checks to ensure high data integrity, while establishing sound data governance and access control standards.
• Set the Standard: Establish engineering best practices—from Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines to documentation and naming conventions—for the future of the data team.
• Strategic Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional technical and business leads to turn high-level operational needs into scalable data solutions.

What You Bring

• AWS Expertise: Proven track record building and managing production data pipelines using core AWS analytics services (Redshift, Glue, S3, Step Functions, and Glue Data Catalog).
• Technical Fluency: Advanced SQL and Python capabilities for data manipulation, workflow automation, and transformation.
• Architecture Acumen: Solid foundation in data warehouse design, lakehouse concepts, and dimensional data modeling.
• Builder's DNA: High degree of autonomy, comfort operating without a preexisting playbook, and the initiative to stand up clean architecture from scratch.
• Professional Engineering: Practical experience working in Git-based, version-controlled production environments.

Bonus Points

• Experience with distributed processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or AWS EMR.
• Prior exposure to AWS Lake Formation or modern table formats (Apache Hudi/Iceberg).
• Experience acting as an informal tech lead, mentor, or primary architecture owner.
• Relevant AWS certifications.
