What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Alarm Technician / Journeyman Electrician (Paid Training & Licensing) position at Synergy Fire and Security, Inc.?
Job Overview
We are hiring a Fire Alarm Technician to support commercial fire alarm and low-voltage work throughout Vermont. The role covers inspections, service, and installation projects.
We are hiring on two tracks. If you are an experienced fire alarm technician, you will step right into inspections and service. If you are a journeyman electrician, or an electrician with fire alarm or low-voltage experience, we will train you on fire alarm systems and pay for your licensing while you work. Electrician-track hires start on installation and service work and move into inspections as they get licensed.
Either way, the right candidate works efficiently in the field and can operate independently with minimal oversight once trained. Candidates with cross-trade low-voltage experience (security, access control, CCTV) are strongly preferred.
Work Schedule:
- 4-day work week.
- 10 hour shifts.
- Occasional overtime may be required, including night work, weekends, and on-call emergency response (on-call bonus pay is provided regardless of whether an emergency call occurs).
Licensing (one of the following):
- Active Vermont Fire Alarm TQP License and Vermont S-Type Commercial Fire Alarm License. OR
- Vermont Journeyman Electrician License, or documented electrical hours toward one, with willingness to obtain TQP and S-Type within 12 months of hire. Training and licensing costs are paid by us.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record (required for all candidates).
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on commercial fire alarm and life safety systems.
- Install fire alarm and low-voltage systems, including wiring, rough-ins, device drops, conduit, and boxes.

- Maintain accurate inspection records, service reports, and documentation using a tablet or mobile device.
- Follow assigned schedules and complete work within required timeframes.
- Communicate clearly with customers, property managers, and internal staff.
- Build and maintain strong, professional customer relationships.
- Provide guidance and support to junior technicians or trainees when applicable.
- Adhere strictly to company safety policies, jobsite protocols, and applicable codes.
