Medical Billing Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Billing Specialist to join our dynamic non-clinical support team. The Billing Specialist will be responsible for addressing patients' billing-related concerns, processing financial transactions, verifying insurance details, and offering exceptional customer service throughout every interaction. The ideal candidate has a strong background in healthcare billing and a commitment to professionalism and accuracy.

Responsibilities for a billing specialist:

• Respond to and resolve billing inquiries related to explanation of benefits, patient disputes, credit card payments, and financial assistance.
• Handle a high volume of inbound calls, maintaining productivity and quality metrics as a Billing Specialist.
• Accurately update account information including patient registration and insurance verification.
• Manage EPIC work queues efficiently as assigned by supervisors or managers.
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for both internal and external inquiries.
• Provide detailed and accurate documentation for all patient accounts.
• Follow up on unresolved customer concerns, performing patient callbacks and corresponding professionally.
• Address and resolve escalated billing issues with discretion and tact.
• Perform basic account adjustments and assist with special projects as needed.

Required Qualifications for a billing specialist:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare billing.
• At least 3 years of customer service experience.
• Ability to understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions.

Preferred Qualifications for a billing specialist:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare industry standards.
