Hospital Financial Counselor: ONSITE 2pm - 10pm

The Financial Counseling team removes financial barriers to care, enabling families to focus wholly on treatment. As navigators of insurance and reimbursement resources, Financial Counselors assist uninsured or underinsured families in applying for various government-sponsored healthcare programs—including Medi-Cal and state health services—and help establish payment plans to resolve patient account balances.

Financial Counselors collaborate extensively with internal departments, including social work, case management, revenue cycle, and physician billing.

Key Responsibilities for a Financial Counselor

• Guide families through complex insurance, billing, and reimbursement processes.
• Screen patients and assist families with eligibility applications for government-sponsored healthcare resources and financial assistance programs.
• Establish manageable payment plans and navigate alternative options to effectively resolve outstanding patient account balances.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with social work, case management, revenue cycle, and physician billing teams to ensure seamless patient care support.
• Maintain comprehensive, accurate documentation of financial counseling activities in compliance with organizational policies and healthcare regulations.

Requirements for a Financial Counselor

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Financial Counselor within a healthcare setting.
• Strong professional understanding of Medi-Cal eligibility, insurance verification, and authorizations.
• Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and manage a dynamic workload effectively.
• Compassionate communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Schedule for a Financial Counselor: Onsite, 5x8 variable days.

• Weekdays: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

• Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

• Sunday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
