We are seeking a Bearing Engineer to join the Applications/Design Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and modification of bearing components and assemblies to meet customer requirements. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring manufacturing processes to minimize production costs while ensuring high-quality products that meet tolerancing standards and specifications.
You will interact with assembly, machining, and press room personnel to ensure work instructions are understood and to assist with troubleshooting. This role also requires close collaboration with engineers and toolmakers when designing formed or stamped bearing components and developing new tooling.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide Applications Engineering support to the Sales department through design layouts, sales drawings, and various bearing/assembly databases.
- Produce internal component and vendor drawings.
- Investigate and analyze new materials, specifications, standards, and engineering practices.
- Prepare engineering calculations, estimates, designs, reviews, and updates.
- Review customer requirements and build-to-print designs for manufacturability.
- Develop cost models and support business cases for new opportunities.
- Support sales with technical expertise, presentations, and customer issue resolution.
- Assist manufacturing with production-related engineering issues.
- Contribute to new product development and intellectual property growth.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principles to components and bearings and collaborate with stakeholders to develop customer solutions.
- Develop and implement production and tooling methodologies and processes for bearing assemblies and components.
- Develop and release manufacturing plans, design controls, detailed work instructions, and engineering change notices.
- Resolve escalated technical issues, prioritizing impact to performance, cost, or schedule.
- Participate in Kaizen events and implement Lean principles and technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to learn and share best practices and maintain awareness of industry standards and trends.
- Design progressive and compound dies required for manufacturing bearing components, including jackets, ball cases, and races.
- Lead engineering projects and partner with employees at all levels to ensure objectives and deadlines are achieved.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to define control plans and inspection methods.
- Relevant technical and computer skills, including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Access, and Excel.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading, engineering drawing interpretation, and tolerancing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Understanding of case hardening heat treatment processes.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Mechanical aptitude and engineering skills for component, tooling, and solution design.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience in mechanical design, drafting, or manufacturing methods preferred.
- Assembly, machining, and metal stamping manufacturing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of metal stamping and machining processes.
Salary : $80,000 - $110,000
