Maintains the grounds, building, and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Organizes and assists with the operation of the Maintenance Department in accordance with and as may be instructed by the Executive Director.
Duties
- Inspects storage rooms, workrooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.
- Oversees company vehicle maintenance.
- Completes regular day trips to customer facilities to repair medication carts. A company vehicle is used for these day trips.
- Ensures that outside services are properly completed/supervised in accordance with contracts/work orders.
- Assists with safety and fire protection and prevention programs by inspecting work areas and equipment at least weekly.
- Maintains established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies at all times.
- Ensures that all personnel wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects.
- Inspects supplies, equipment, etc., to ensure that all are maintained to provide a safe and comfortable environment.
- Assumes the responsibility for obtaining/maintaining material safety data sheets (MSDSs) for hazardous chemicals in the maintenance department.
- Ensures that containers of hazardous chemicals in the department are properly labeled and stored.
- Complies with maintenance policies on the use labels and MSDSs to recognize hazards and to follow appropriate protective measures.
- Ensures that maintenance personnel follow established policies governing the use/disposal of personal protective equipment and disposal of infectious wastes.
- Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
- Conducts periodic rounds to check equipment and to assure that necessary equipment is available and working properly.
- Checks supply rooms and work areas to assure that needed supplies are readily available to perform assigned tasks.
- Ensures that appropriate personal protective equipment used in the handling of infectious materials is available and easily accessible to maintenance personnel.
- Ensures that equipment contaminated with blood or other infectious material is properly labeled or tagged before being sent for repair or decontamination.
- Ensures that the grounds, landscaping, parking areas etc., are maintained in a neat, safe and effective manner.
- Ensures that equipment is maintained in good working order.
- Performs repairs as needed and/or appropriate on equipment, building and grounds.
- High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) to three (3) years building or maintenance experience in a healthcare, senior living industry or longterm care environment preferred.
- Computer skills that include knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
