Your role
The Sr. Flavorist will be responsible for the development of flavors, flavoring building blocks and flavor technologies within the health and functional systems space. The Sr. Flavorist will have a strong background in taste modulation along with sweet/beverage flavor creation experience. This position will also have strong knowledge of flavor production and necessary troubleshooting production issues. The Sr. Flavorist will also be customer facing and build strong technical relationships with key customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Proactively drive flavor creation leveraging technical expertise to deliver industry leading taste solutions, in accordance with our short- and long-term strategic objectives.
B. Coordinate both North America regional and global flavor development for reactive and proactive projects for selected key accounts.
C. Cultivate customer intimacy by understanding customer needs and pinch point offering technical support in alignment with category teams and sales.
D. Engage with global and cross regional Symrise creative hubs by partnering in collaboration with R&T, Taste Balancing platforms, application, category, portfolio and regulatory.
- Develop commercially successful flavors as outlined by an approved technical project using GRAS and FDA approved ingredients. Work closely with internal Symrise food science groups to develop successful products.
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of specialties chemicals and the ability to use/apply in the development of successful development flavors.
- Collaborate Flavor development activities with Junior Flavorists, Flavorists and Senior Flavorists to enhance the overall BU Team to Development Skills and maintain “One Team” culture.
- Oversee and take responsibility for first-time production-made flavors while resolving and troubleshooting any technical issues.
- Ability to lead and mentor laboratory technicians and Jr. Flavorists/Flavorists.
- Resolve technical problems related to flavors/systems development, provide solutions to cost reduction initiatives without compromising the quality of the flavor. Must be able to address technical flavor issues related to finished products.
- Good communication, interpersonal and organizational kills
- Computer literacies are required.
- Strong sensory knowledge.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
- Able to smell and taste flavors with no dietary restrictions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to balance diverse projects pipeline and challenging timelines
- Deep knowledge of flavor production and encapsulation technologies.
- knowledge of off notes and challenges with health-related materials
Safety/Regulatory Training Requirements
- Safety training for chemical laboratory, Hazardous waste management, DOT Samples
- Chemical laboratory environment. On Site 5 days per week.
About you
Knowledge and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree required, with a strong technical background.
- More than 10 years of flavor development and formulation experience, including knowledge of U.S. and international flavor regulations.
- Experience working with raw materials such as essential oils, botanical extracts, and specialty aromatic ingredients for use in flavor creation.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to flavor and systems development, including cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Understanding of flavor production processes, product applications, market trends, sales functions, laboratory equipment, and diverse customer needs.
- Prior experience collaborating with global customers is preferred.

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The expected annual salary range for this position is USD 140000.00 – USD 199000.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance.
