Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Childcare Center Director to oversee the daily operations of a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) licensed childcare center. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, in-depth knowledge of MSDE/COMAR regulations, and a passion for delivering high-quality early childhood education.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience as a Childcare Director, Assistant Director, Program Director, or Early Childhood Administrator.

Responsibilities, Licensing & Compliance

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with MSDE Child Care Licensing Regulations (COMAR)
  • Maintain center licensure, inspections, and required documentation
  • Ensure adherence to Maryland Early Learning Standards
  • Oversee health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures

Staff Leadership & Supervision

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate teaching staff
  • Ensure all staff meet MSDE credentialing and training requirements
  • Schedule staff to maintain teacher-child ratios
  • Provide coaching, classroom observations, and performance feedback

Program & Curriculum Management

  • Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Monitor classroom quality and child outcomes
  • Support lesson planning and assessments

Family & Community Relations

  • Build strong relationships with families and guardians
  • Address parent concerns professionally and timely
  • Serve as the primary contact for families, MSDE, and community partners

Administrative & Enrollment Management

  • Manage enrollment, attendance, and student records
  • Oversee tuition collection and basic budgeting
  • Maintain accurate records for audits and inspections

Qualifications (Required)

  • Must meet MSDE Director Credential requirements, including:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or related field, OR
  • MSDE-approved combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or administrative experience in early childhood education
  • Strong knowledge of MSDE licensing, COMAR, and childcare regulations
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and child abuse clearance
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Education Administration
  • Experience with MSDE EXCELS or NAEYC accreditation
  • Experience using childcare management software
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
