Position Summary

Responsible for the overall smooth day-to-day operation of the company ensuring all personnel, vehicles, and equipment operate in an efficient manner. He/she has the authority to make supervisory decisions affecting the positive outcome of the company’s operations and to take appropriate disciplinary action up to suspension without pay, when required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervise the daily field operations, field personnel, and perform supervisory duties including: hiring, corrective action, performance appraisals, salary reviews, counseling, work scheduling,
  • Responsible for managing resources (personnel, vehicles, equipment, supplies) in order to provide the highest level of care with the resources available.
  • Work with training staff to assist in the progression of the new trainees.
  • Maintain constant up-to-date knowledge and records of all current protocols issued by Symbiosis.
  • Conduct daily on-site visits to all area health-related facilities as acting liaison for field operations services.
  • Respond to company-involved accidents as required. Perform all related documentation and completion of reports and submit according to company time requirements.
  • Assist, or conduct, company-provided EVOC courses as needed.
  • Assist, or conduct Train the Trainer classes as needed.
  • Meet regularly with crew members for the purpose of providing guidance, review of new

company information about the company, policy, and changes in County policy.

  • Investigate clinical incidents, complaints, and vehicle accidents.
  • Assist in maintaining professional communication with other EMS agencies, police, fire and paramedics.
  • Prepare and review reports relating to performance of the company.
  • Prepare and post employee performance stats.
  • Respond to and manage any employee that is injured on the job. Ensure that all required forms are completed and submitted according to Symbiosis constraints.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are always “response ready” according to company’s guidelines.
  • Ensure that all crew members provide the Communications Center with their “morning info.”
  • Maintain proficiency in any OCFA requirements (radio, response times, supplies, vehicles).
  • Ensure that all vehicles are clean and professional appearance.
  • Assess the fleet for new damage and document as needed.
  • Ensure that Symbiosis professional uniform standards are met.
  • Ensure that all crews are meeting Symbiosis response time requirements.
  • Perform scheduling duties for the employees in the assigned division.
  • Provide EMT coverage on shifts when there are call-offs while attempting to cover the shift.
  • Ensure that all vehicles and equipment maintenance objectives are implemented and that equipment is efficiently used and maintained.
  • Ensure proper communication of all company policies within field operations to all staff members timely and effectively.
  • Assist in all areas of Risk Management (incidents, accidents, health and safety, etc.)
  • Maintain proper licensing on all vehicles for assigned division.
  • Implement all directives issued by the CEO and COO.
  • Attend all available continuing education seminars to improve management skills and recommend attendance of scheduled seminars to pertinent staff members as well.
  • Remain on call for all operations related issues/matters.
  • Resolve complaints from EMTs regarding work assignments, vehicle accidents, employee injuries etc.
  • Account for the receipt of all daily PCRs for the division.
  • Audit PCRs for thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Be able to use cascade system and follow all safety rules when re-filling 02 tanks.
  • Inspect on-duty vehicles daily ensuring compliance with all requirements in terms of cleanliness and supply inventory.
  • Inspect all stations for cleanliness and investigate all deficiencies reported by oncoming crews with regard to crew’s quarters.
  • Supervise and monitor the performance of field personnel.
  • Maintain company compliance with OSHA regulations and SB 19.
  • Perform driving evaluations on employees.
  • Assist the Training Manager in annual driving reviews and cone courses with all ambulance drivers.
  • Schedules vacation requests, bereavement leave, personal leave absence, jury duty, maternity/ paternity leave, military leave, non-job related leave of absence and medical leave of absence.
  • Receive and document all shift change/vacation request forms and approve or deny them according to established standards of low overtime totals.
  • Coordinate the proper scheduling to be issued.
  • Maintain a log of employees willing to work overtime.

Basic Qualifications:

  • California state EMT card required or higher certification.
  • American Heart Association or Red Cross Healthcare Provider CPR Certification required.
  • CA driver’s license required and must have an excellent driving record.
  • Medical Examiner’s Certificate required.
  • Ambulance Driver’s Certificate (ADC) required.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Some college preferred.
  • Must have dependable transportation and flexible schedule.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of modern EMS principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Reading, writing, comprehension, and basic mathematical skills are required.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to solve problems.
  • Must maintain calm in stressful and chaotic situations.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
