Role Description
Sylvan Learning of Bellevue is seeking part-time teachers to deliver personalized instruction to K-12 students in small-group settings. Using Sylvan's proven instructional methods and program materials, you will guide students through individualized learning plans, evaluate their progress, and create an engaging, supportive environment that inspires academic growth.

What Makes This Role Different
Flexible Scheduling
- Part-time, up to 20 hours per week
- Choose shifts that work for you within center hours: M, Tu, Th, F 3-8pm | W 1-8pm | Sat 9am-1pm optional
- Saturday shifts are optional and result in preferential scheduling
- Minimum commitment of 2 shifts per week
Focus on Teaching, Not Paperwork
- No lesson planning or curriculum development
- No class preparation outside of scheduled shifts

Qualifications
Reading/Writing (Language Arts) Teachers:
- Four-year degree or equivalent required
- State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired)
Math/Science Teachers:
- Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 years of college-level math or science coursework
- State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 years of teaching experience
- Experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or Advanced Learning (AL) classes
- Experience teaching in Bellevue, Issaquah, or Lake Washington School District, or at private schools in the area

Responsibilities
- Prepare for each instructional session by gathering and organizing materials
- Greet students and initiate instruction in a personally engaging manner
- Deliver instruction according to the Sylvan program design in a small-group setting
- Manage students, tasks, and time to create balanced instructional sessions
- Evaluate and record each student's progress on their program assignments
- Use praise, encouragement, and Sylvan token rewards to keep students engaged and motivated
- Manage session conclusions, including learning logs and transition activities
- Support procedures that ensure student safety and well-being
- Communicate student progress and needs to the Center staff through verbal updates, SylvanSync notes, and flagging concerns as they arise
- Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed
- Complete certification training on each Sylvan program you teach
