Job Overview
Sylvan Learning of Westheimer Lakes is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Upper-Level Math Tutor to join our instructional team. We are looking for a tutor who can confidently teach Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus, while helping students build confidence through clear, patient instruction.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with middle and high school students and has the ability to explain difficult math concepts in simple, understandable ways. SAT Math experience is a plus, and Sylvan training is provided.
The Sylvan Teacher creates a positive learning experience by teaching students using Sylvan's instructional materials and proven teaching methods while providing encouragement, motivation, and individualized support.
Duties
- Teach Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus using Sylvan curriculum
- Support students preparing for SAT Math (training provided)
- Adapt explanations to meet each student's learning style
- Build confidence in struggling learners through positive reinforcement
- Prepare for each instructional session using Sylvan materials
- Evaluate student progress and document instructional notes
- Collaborate with Center Staff regarding student progress
- Participate in ongoing Sylvan training and certification
- Maintain a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree (or upper-level coursework toward a bachelor's degree)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Algebra I
- Geometry
- Algebra II
- Precalculus
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to explain math concepts clearly to students with varying skill levels
Preferred
- Previous tutoring or classroom teaching experience
- SAT Math experience
- Experience working with middle and high school students
- Comfortable working with students with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, or learning differences
- Familiarity with iPads and educational technology
Schedule
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons/evenings and Saturdays.
Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
