Electrical & Instrument (E&I) Technician II

The Electrical & Instrument (E&I) Technician II is a skilled field technician responsible for the independent installation, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning of industrial electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. This position requires the ability to complete assigned work with minimal supervision while maintaining SYCON International's standards for safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The E&I Technician II is expected to lead small crews when assigned, mentor Technician I employees, and coordinate daily field activities with project leadership — serving as the primary developmental step toward becoming an E&I Technician III.
Field Responsibilities
• Perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision.
• Lead small field crews on assigned work activities.
• Coordinate daily tasks with project leadership.
• Train and mentor Technician I personnel.
• Maintain productive working relationships with customers and other trades.
• Report project progress and field issues to project leadership.
Electrical
• Install, troubleshoot, and test industrial electrical systems operating at 24 VDC, 120 VAC, 208 VAC,
and 480 VAC.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and one-line diagrams.
• Install conduit, cable tray, supports, grounding systems, and industrial wiring.
• Perform power and control terminations.
• Perform continuity testing and insulation resistance (Megger) testing.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and recommend corrective actions.
Instrumentation & Controls
• Install, replace, calibrate, and troubleshoot industrial instrumentation, including pressure and
differential pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters/RTDs/thermocouples, flow meters,
radar and ultrasonic level transmitters, control valves, MOVs, VFDs, gas and flame detection
systems, vibration monitoring systems, and analyzer systems.
• Install tubing systems.
• Perform loop checks.
• Read and interpret loop drawings and P&IDs.
• Troubleshoot instrument loops independently.
Automation & Industrial Networking
• Install PLC panels and remote I/O equipment.
• Perform I/O checkout and hardware verification.
• Assist with PLC startup and commissioning.
• Install, terminate, and test Ethernet and fiber-optic communication cabling.
• Troubleshoot physical network installation issues.
Commissioning & Startup
• Perform assigned commissioning activities and conduct functional testing of installed systems.
• Assist with startup activities and complete punch-list items.
• Produce accurate redline documentation.
Leadership & Safety
• Lead small crews, mentor Technician I personnel, and promote teamwork and professionalism.
• Work safely without direct supervision; participate in JSAs and toolbox safety meetings.
• Follow OSHA, NFPA 70E, and customer-specific safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout
procedures and proper PPE use.
• Stop work and report unsafe conditions.
• Time Management: Sets appropriate priorities and allocates time effectively; handles conflicting priorities or multiple demands with ease.
• Problem Management: Deals effectively with problems; looks beyond symptoms to underlying causes; makes innovative suggestions to solve unusual problems.

Education and Experience Required• High school diploma or GED required.
• Approximately 3–7 years of industrial Electrical and Instrumentation experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, loop drawings, and P&IDs.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications• Certification or Associate Degree in Electrical and/or Instrumentation field.
• OSHA 10 / OSHA 30.
• TWIC Card.
• NCCER Certification.
• ISA CCST Certification.
• NFPA 70E Training.
• First Aid / CPR Certification.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment• Lift up to 75 pounds.
• Work from ladders and scaffolding; operate aerial lifts; climb industrial structures.
• Work in confined spaces and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Work around energized electrical equipment and rotating industrial equipment.
• Wear required PPE, including FR clothing, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and fall
protection when required.
• Travel, including overnight travel, is expected based on project requirements.
