As our next commercial renewal underwriter you will be responsible for evaluating, underwriting, and managing property and casualty insurance risks for commercial clients. This role aims to ensure optimal coverage, pricing, and profitability while maintaining a high level of customer service and compliance with company policies.
This is a New Jersey based remote position. Travel to our office in Morristown, New Jersey, will be required for training and team meetings throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities: (What you'll be asked to do)
- Evaluate insurance applications and determine appropriate underwriting actions based on risk assessment and company guidelines.
- Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients to facilitate the underwriting process.
- Analyze risk factors and assess coverage needs for various commercial property and casualty insurance products.
- Monitor and manage an assigned portfolio of accounts to ensure profitability and retention rates meet company targets.
- Underwrite and price renewal business for apartments and condo associations.
- Review inspections, inspection recommendations, loss runs, COPE data, modeling and supplemental materials.
- Issue renewal terms, negotiate with agents, and manage retention.
- Maintain underwriting discipline and document decisions thoroughly.
- Collaborate with underwriting assistants and management to deliver excellent service.
The Successful Candidate: (what we're looking for)
- The ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining accuracy, speed, and underwriting discipline. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multitask is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to negotiate terms with agents and/or our carrier partners to explain underwriting decisions
- Professionalism, responsiveness, and a commitment to delivering superior service
Some Requirements:
- P&C (Property & Casualty) License is preferred.
- 5 years of Commercial underwriting experience; habitational and or property preferred
- Strong understanding of property risk drivers (wiring, roofs, plumbing, life safety)
- Surplus lines / non-admitted experience a plus.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- High School Diploma is required.
Computer Skills:
- Must be proficient with MS Office and other internal insurance related programs, systems or applications. You must be good with technology and able to pick up on internal systems and programs quickly.
- Ability to communicate effectively using programs such as Slack & MS Teams.
- You are comfortable sharing screens and video chatting.
Other:
- Reliable high-speed internet connectivity required.
- Designated quiet work from home space.
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is: $75,000 - $85,000 /year benefits.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations. This salary range is a good-faith estimate of what Swyfft may pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, qualifications, and experience. The range reflects annual compensation (as applicable) and does not include bonuses or other incentives that the company may choose to pay at its sole discretion.
