About You
The Individual Life Facultative Underwriting team is seeking a VP, Large Case Underwriter to help deliver exceptional underwriting expertise and client service. This hands-on role is ideal for an accomplished life underwriter with extensive experience handling large and high-net-worth cases, complex underwriting scenarios, and foreign national business, while contributing to underwriting excellence.

For Armonk, NY, New York, NY, and Washington DC, the estimated base salary range for this position is $136,000 to $204,000, and for Chicago, IL, Plano, TX, Fort Wayne, IN, Kansas City, MO, Schaumburg, IL, Alpharetta, GA, and Windsor, CT, the range $128,000 to $192,000.
The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.

Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate complex risks across medical, non-medical, financial, highly substandard, and multi-impairment cases, applying sound underwriting judgment and evidence-based risk selection
- Underwrite large case and high net worth business, including foreign national cases, with precision and a strong command of mortality assessment principles
- Deliver high-quality underwriting decisions that align with Swiss Re's risk appetite, pricing objectives, and corporate strategy
- Build and nurture client relationships, serving as a knowledgeable, responsive, and trusted reinsurance partner
- Stay current on medical advancements, global events, underwriting trends, industry developments, and the evolving regulatory environment to inform risk decisions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with pricing, product, legal, and other internal teams to drive well-rounded outcomes on complex cases and broader initiatives
- Participate in and lead internal and external audit programs, contributing to governance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement efforts
- Represent Swiss Re professionally at industry conferences, client meetings, and Swiss Re offices, acting as an ambassador for the brand and the team
- Contribute to team knowledge-sharing initiatives, mentoring colleagues and supporting a culture of learning and development across the Americas
- Support product and governance considerations, ensuring underwriting practices remain compliant, consistent, and aligned with evolving market standards
