About The Role

Direct report to North America's FinPro and Casualty leader.

As Head of Executive Risks US, you are a leader with a vision for a long-term, sustainable commercial management liability offering to Swiss Re customers. You are accountable for delivering product management, underwriting leadership, and financial performance for the US Executive Risks portfolio. As a portfolio owner, you are responsible for the steering and management of an $110mm GWP book of business and a team of 27 underwriters. The portfolio consists of management liability products servicing risks in the commercial sector. The aspiration is to grow and diversify its products, segmentation, and sector concentrations to enable sustainable underwriting profitability throughout the various market cycles.

Your success is measured through the achievement of the following priorities:

  • profit and loss targets;
  • portfolio steering indicators;
  • strategy execution;
  • appropriate risk quality and selection; and
  • continuous improvement of data quality and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape the foundations and execution of the growth and profitability strategy for the US Public and Private Management Liability, Fiduciary and Employment Practices Liability lines of business
  • Perform periodic portfolio reviews to ensure adherence to strategy and performance targets
  • Lead and develop the underwriting team through growth stages dependent on market cycle, clearly defined underwriting standards and prevailing profitability trends
  • Collaborate closely with Global Executive Risk leader, FinPro professionals, Customer & Distribution Team and the broader Corso community to ensure prioritization and coordination of underwriting, sales, and cross-sell efforts throughout the network
  • Develop and maintain trusted and interdependent relationships with key internal stakeholders - actuarial, claims, legal, operations, IT - and external stakeholders including key Executive Risks brokers and reinsurers
  • Actively develop team through training, coaching and skills development for present and future underwriting and marketing needs

Managing and steering the Executive Risks portfolio will require regular review of:

▪ People and performance effectiveness against priorities

▪ Defining and refining risk appetite through lens of profitability

▪ Effectiveness of risk assessment/costing tools taking fast, effective actions where necessary

▪ UW platforms and processes to ensure governance while balancing the need to consider simplification/technology usage

▪ Develop a rhythm and process to rapidly detect and understand positive and negative risk trends

▪ Policy/contract wording to evaluate market demand and risk appetite

▪ Partner with Alternative Risk Transfer Team to define and develop opportunities

About You

  • 10 years of technical underwriting experience in Management Liability Lines
  • Recognized as an Executive Risks leader in the market. agile, results-driven and decisive
  • Pragmatic, "can do" mentality
  • Ability to think operationally, tactically, and strategically
  • Balanced awareness of risks and opportunities with strong business acumen
  • Excellent negotiation skills to achieve bottom line profitability for Swiss Re CorSo
  • Ability to understand loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking -- and -- ability to quantify risk based on experience history and forecasting methods
  • Competent use of data and analytics to improve business processes
  • Fast learning skills to adequately use existing systems and software programs needed to conduct daily business
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Team-oriented working style and ability to work in a dynamic environment

The estimated base salary range for this position is $216,000 to $340,000. The specific salary offered for any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office or visiting clients three days per week.
