Job Overview
The Kitchen Helper supports the culinary team by maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment. This role involves basic food preparation, heavy cleaning, and assisting chefs to ensure high-quality service.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Food Preparation: Assist chefs with basic tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning vegetables, fruits, and proteins.
- Cleaning & Sanitation: Maintain a spotless workspace by washing dishes, cutlery, pots, and pans. Ensure floors are swept and mopped regularly.
- Waste Management: Safely dispose of kitchen waste and recycling; ensure trash cans are emptied and sanitized throughout the shift.
- Stock Organization: Assist in unloading deliveries, checking items against invoices, and organizing the pantry and walk-in coolers using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
- Equipment Care: Clean and maintain kitchen equipment (e.g., slicers, blenders, grills) according to safety standards.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food storage temperatures and chemical handling.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen or fast-paced environment is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods (8 hours) and lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs / 23 kg).
- Teamwork: A proactive "how can I help?" attitude and the ability to work well under pressure during peak hours.
- Reliability: Punctuality and a consistent work ethic are non-negotiable.
- Certifications: Possession of (or willingness to obtain) a Food Handler’s Permit or local health safety certification.
- Communication: Ability to follow verbal instructions clearly and communicate effectively with the front-of-house staff.
