Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers or flatbeds on over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring timely deliveries across multiple locations.
- Transport hazardous materials (Hazmat) in compliance with all Hazardous Materials Regulations and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) guidelines.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan and follow optimal routes, adjusting as needed for traffic or road conditions.
- Load and unload freight manually or with truck loading equipment, ensuring proper securement of cargo including dangerous goods and logistics cargo.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking for compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, shipment documentation, and incident reports in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route progress, delays, or issues encountered during deliveries.
Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for Hazmat transportation and manual transmission operation.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including delivery driving and route driving across OTR routes.
- Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Regulations and Dangerous Goods handling procedures.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations and DOT compliance requirements for safe trucking practices.
- Proficiency with GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning and real-time adjustments.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely while loading/unloading cargo; experience with automobile transportation is a plus.
