Maintenance Technician I

Position Overview 

Swift Straw is seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Technician to join our dynamic team at our Jasper, FL manufacturing facility. In this mid-level position, you will play a crucial role in the installation, repair, and monitoring of industrial processing and production machinery. Your expertise in mechanical and hydraulic systems will ensure the seamless operation of our facilities and contribute to the overall efficiency and reliability of our operations. 

As Maintenance Technician, you will be a key player on our maintenance team, responsible for executing a range of maintenance tasks, from troubleshooting mechanical and hydraulic malfunctions to conducting preventative maintenance on machinery. You will report directly to the Building Engineer and it will be held accountable for key performance metrics, such as minimizing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency. 

Responsibilities: 

• Knowledge of the procedures for installing, altering, and repairing all industrial equipment including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components.  Ability to understand machinery and diagnose problems
• Conduct thorough inspections of buildings, equipment, and systems to identify potential issues before they escalate into larger problems.
• Diagnose and repair faulty equipment units and damaged structures to maintain operational integrity and efficiency.
• Develop and implement effective preventative maintenance procedures to enhance the longevity and reliability of all equipment.
• Perform periodic quality checks on equipment and systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Maintain comprehensive and detailed maintenance records for all equipment to ensure accountability, traceability, and informed decision-making.

Qualifications: 

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, showcasing proven expertise in mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Strong organizational abilities with a demonstrated capacity to effectively manage complex systems.
• Fundamental mechanical knowledge combined with hands-on experience in a production environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interactions with team members, company leadership, contractors, and laborers.
• A strong team player with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
• A valid driver’s license with eligibility for the company’s commercial auto insurance policy.
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
• Demonstrated ability in proactive problem-solving with a self-motivated approach, embodying a commitment to achieving results regardless of challenges

This position directly impacts the equipment’s up-time and overall production efficiency, keeping the facility at pace to meet production goals and customer demands. Through careful troubleshooting, preventative care, and rapid response to issues, the technician safeguards the performance of every piece of machinery involved in producing and shipping our innovative pine straw products. By maintaining a safe and functional environment, this role also protects team members and ensures consistent product quality. The Maintenance Technician's work is behind the scenes—but without it, the entire operation would grind to a halt. Their skill, consistency, and urgency make them indispensable to Swift Straw’s daily success and long-term growth.
