General:
The Purchasing Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuous supply of materials and equipment necessary for wood processing and production operations. This position typically involves a blend of administrative, analytical, and interpersonal skills to manage inventory, procure goods and services, and maintain positive vendor relationships. The Purchasing Assistant will report to the Purchasing Manager and Operations Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs duties as assigned, complies with all safety regulations and practices and follows specific directions. The tasks associated with this position include but are not limited to:
- Inventory Management: Monitoring stock levels, conducting physical counts, reconciling records, and identifying potential shortages.
- Procurement and Order Processing: Creating and processing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, communicating with vendors, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining purchasing records.
- Vendor Relationships: Maintaining existing relationships and identifying new vendors, potentially including negotiating pricing and terms.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Preparing reports on inventory and procurement activities, analyzing market trends, and maintaining records to identify improvements.
- Other Duties: Collaborating with internal departments, assisting in resolving supplier issues, supporting procurement policies, and staying informed on industry regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in purchasing, procurement, or administration, ideally in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong organizational, time management, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and familiarity with procurement software.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong ethical guidelines.
