Substitute Childcare Teacher

Sweet Pea Learning Center is hiring a flexible, dependable, and caring Substitute Child Care Teacher to support our classrooms as needed. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children, can adapt quickly, and is available to pick up shifts on short notice.

Our substitute teachers may work with children from infants through preschool age, 0–6 years old, and must be comfortable floating between classrooms and supporting different age groups throughout the day. This position may also require floating between our Silverton and Mount Angel centers, depending on staffing needs.

We are looking for someone who is highly flexible and available for both scheduled and short-notice shifts. The majority of the position will include approximately 20 scheduled hours per week, with the potential to work up to 40 hours per week depending on center needs, staff absences, and availability.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing safe, nurturing, and attentive care to children ages 0–6
• Supporting lead teachers with daily classroom routines, activities, meals, naps, diapering, toileting, and transitions
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
• Following all Sweet Pea Learning Center policies and Oregon child care licensing rules
• Communicating professionally with teachers, administrators, children, and families
• Stepping into different classrooms and centers as needed
• Helping maintain consistency and structure for children during staff absences

Ideal candidates will be:

• Able to follow directions and classroom routines
• Calm under pressure and comfortable in a busy child care environment

Requirements:

• Must meet Oregon child care licensing requirements
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Previous child care experience preferred
• Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry preferred, or willingness to complete enrollment
• CPR/First Aid and other required trainings preferred, or willingness to complete them

Schedule:
This is a substitute/floating position with flexible hours. Approximately 20 hours per week may be scheduled regularly, with the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week based on availability and staffing needs. Applicants must be available for short-notice shift coverage.
