Responsibilities
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care, grooming, dressing, and mobility support using manual handling techniques and patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing patient conditions, and reporting changes in accordance with care plans.
- Administer medications safely following HIPAA guidelines and established protocols; document medication administration accurately.
- Support clients during meal preparation, feeding, and nutritional needs while ensuring dietary restrictions are followed.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in recreational activities to promote mental health and social interaction.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties, laundry, and ensuring infection control standards are met.
- Document all care activities thoroughly in client records, including patient monitoring notes, incident reports, and updates to individualized care plans.
- Assist with transportation for appointments or community outings using personal transportation assistance or appropriate vehicle safety procedures.
- Observe clients for signs of dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism; implement specialized memory or dementia care strategies.
- Follow all safety protocols including first aid, CPR certification requirements, and emergency response procedures to ensure client safety at all times.
Experience
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays such as autism or intellectual disabilities support experience is advantageous.
- Knowledge of patient care techniques including patient transfer methods like Hoyer lifts and patient personal care assistance is essential.
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures and monitoring vital signs aligns with the role’s responsibilities.
- Experience working with seniors or in geriatrics settings enhances your ability to provide compassionate senior care.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications related to hospice care or dementia support are a plus.
- Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration are vital for success in this role.
