We are seeking a dynamic Diesel Repair Shop Assistant Manager to lead our heavy equipment maintenance team. In this vital role, you will oversee daily shop operations, coordinate repairs on a wide range of diesel-powered machinery, and ensure that all equipment is maintained to the highest standards. Your expertise will drive efficiency, uphold safety protocols, and support our commitment to delivering top-tier service.
Responsibilities
- Oversee employee scheduling and performance, purchasing and receiving, and day-to-day tasks related to heavy duty diesel repair services
- Supervise daily shop activities, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to safety standards
- Coordinate and perform repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, and other heavy equipment components
- Oversee diagnostic procedures using schematics and automotive diagnostics tools to identify issues accurately
- Lead troubleshooting efforts involving electrical systems, HVAC units, shocks & struts, brakes, wheel alignments, welding, soldering, and power tools usage
- Ensure proper use of hand tools and power tools during repair processes while maintaining a safe work environment
- Maintain detailed records of repairs performed, parts used, and service reports for accountability and future reference
- Oversees the day-to-day workflow and assignments of service staff.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a heavy equipment repair environment with a strong mechanical background
- Extensive knowledge of diesel engine repair, automotive diagnostics, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension systems, and welding techniques
- Familiarity with schematics reading and electrical troubleshooting for industrial equipment
- Ability to operate forklifts, and tractor-trailers safely and efficiently
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team of technicians while fostering a safety-first culture
- Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients regarding repairs and maintenance needs
