Primary Purpose:

To assist licensed electrician and HVAC technician in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Apprenticeship offers a clear career path with opportunities to advance into Electrical Technician, HVAC Technician, Service Technician, Installer, or Journeyman roles through continued training, certifications, and hands-on experience.

Qualifications:

       Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • OSHA 10 Certifications preferred
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (or willingness to obtain)

         Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Interest in pursuing a career in the electrical and HVAC trades
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work independently

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical and HVAC equipment

2. Learn to troubleshoot electrical circuits, heating systems, air conditioning units, and ventilation systems

3. Help install wiring, conduit, breakers, thermostats, motors, compressors, and other system components

  1. Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment and electrical systems
  2. Use hand tools, power tolls, and testing equipment safely and correctly
  3. Read and interpret basic blueprints, wiring diagrams, and installation manuals
  4. Follow all OSHA safety regulations and safety procedures
  5. Maintain a clean and organized work area, vehicle, and job site
  6. Load, unload, and organize tools, materials, and equipment
  7. Accurately complete work orders and daily job documentation
  8. Communicate professionally with staff and team members
  9. Participate in classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and continuing education as required
  10. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  11. Respond to emergency calls as needed
  12. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor
  13. Assist other departments of the district as assigned

 

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand and power tools, multimeter, gauge sets, probes, ladders

Posture/Motion: Prolonged standing; frequent walking, kneeling/squatting, climbing, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (up to 75 pounds)

Environment: Work in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, and confined spaces; and work in varying weather conditions,work on slippery or uneven surfaces exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards, work around machinery with moving parts

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
