Job Description
- Review property tax assessments and tax bills, preparing appeals when necessary or advised.
- Reviewing prior year tax protest results and identifying areas of improvement.
- Establish a protest process fit for SWE Homes’ diverse portfolio.
- Utilize previous experience and relationships to teach the protest process to new joiners.
- Oversee and respond to property tax notices and requests from various taxing authorities.
- Assist in the preparation for protest hearings by conducting research, compiling property documentation, and ensuring adherence to hearing and appeal deadlines.
- Conduct tax research and stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations.
- Receive and file online property assessment/value notices.
- Update the status of the company’s holdings when notified of changes by the company’s various departments
- Open to various special projects which facilitate learning and coordination with other groups
- Negotiate value settlements with appraisers in Texas counties and other out-of-state entities.
- Document and record new property acquisitions, setting up files for purchases.
- Verify property ownership with HCAD and other appraisal entities.
- Serve as a liaison with taxing authorities and counties.
