Position Title: Lead Saw Filer
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
Department: Maintenance
Hours per shift: Employee works 12-hour shifts (Schedule may fluctuate depending on mill needs and machine center down time)
Wage: $39.66
Position Purpose: Responsible for supporting Plant Manager in providing leadership and direction of the saw filers in their daily job routines by issuing work orders and through direct communications. Lead Saw filer communicates with and keeps Plant Manager informed of all problems and progress. Lead Saw filer will be responsible for supporting and promoting company policies and procedures while encouraging the same positive behavior in each member of the saw filing team. Safety is a priority. Following lockout procedures is always mandatory. Use of personal protective equipment should include eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, and sturdy boots. Always practice safe lifting. Keep all guards, shields, and covers in place to protect yourself. Safety is a habit you should practice and encourage your co-workers to do the same.
Position Functions:
Head Saw Filer: Essential Functions*
These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.
Maintain a high level of communication with supervisors, machine operators, and maintenance regarding quality issues.
Troubleshoots saw damage, monitors saw changes. Research filing technology.
Supervises other filers. Train other filers in all aspects of Sawfiling and Safety.
Inspect, level, tension, and sharpen bandsaws and circle saws.
Side grind bandsaws and circle saws.
Assist in tipping bandsaws and circle saws.
Help with repair of damaged saw teeth by welding or replacing the teeth (oxy/acetylene and TIG welding).
Assist in the process of knife grinding.
Assist with saw changes at edgers and band mills. Report incorrect saw change procedures and mishandling of saws or guides to supervisors.
Help with cleaning, pouring, and shaving of saw guides.
Understand filing room machine operation, calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
Have a good working knowledge of how to line up, operate, and repair all edgers and bandmills. Help maintain all lubricants at these workstations.
Have a strong working relationship with the maintenance department.
Attend and participate in daily/weekly management and maintenance meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Functions
These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.
Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purpose.
Sweep filing room as needed. Assist with cleaning of filing room machinery
Working Environment: (1) Inside 90%, average temperature 80 degrees, extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 120 degrees F. (2) Outside 10%. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Dry wood, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None. The worker in this position will be standing on a slightly elevated wooden platform with rubber mats. The worker will move back and forth on this platform in front of an elevated dry conveyor measuring 3 ½ to 4’ above the ground. - Quality Control – measuring lumber and making machine adjustments.
- Basic Computer Skills

- Assist production personnel with any material flow related to production equipment.
