The Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator supports community engagement, volunteer involvement, outreach communications, and program and event support as part of Swannanoa’s disaster recovery efforts. This role focuses on connecting residents to recovery resources, supporting Hub programs and events, and assisting with outreach and volunteer activities in collaboration with staff, partners, vendors, and volunteers.
This position is hands-on and community-facing, with responsibilities centered on coordination, communication, and implementation rather than executive leadership or sole program management.
Mission: To support the people of Swannanoa in an effective, efficient, and equitable recovery by providing a shared space for coordination, collaboration, and community building.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach and Engagement
- Support outreach efforts to engage residents and increase awareness of recovery resources and Hub programs, including outreach connected to community events such as the Swannanoa Farmers Market.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, neighborhood groups, vendors, and volunteers.
- Share community feedback and insights with staff to help inform programming and outreach efforts.
Volunteer Coordination
- Recruit, schedule, and support volunteers for Hub programs, events, and activities, including community events such as the Swannanoa Farmers Market.
- Coordinate volunteer roles and on site support during programs and events.
- Maintain volunteer communication and basic records.
- Ensure volunteers are welcomed, prepared, and supported in collaboration with staff and partners.
Communications Support
- Assist with creating and sharing outreach materials, including flyers, email updates, and social media posts related to programs and events.
- Support basic website and social media updates tied to scheduled activities and announcements.
- Help document programs and events through photos, short written content, and digital assets.
- Maintain organized outreach and communications files.
Programs and Events Support
- Assist with planning, logistics, set up, and follow up for Hub programs and community events.
- Support volunteer coordination, outreach, and on site community engagement during scheduled programs and events.
- Help promote programs and events and encourage community participation.
- Support on-site coordination during events and activities.
- Track participation and basic program, outreach, and event metrics.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required, associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- 2 or more years of experience in community outreach, volunteer coordination, or related work.
- Experience working with volunteers or community members in a service-oriented setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Work schedule Tuesday-Saturday, with the ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed for events.
