As a HR Specialist, you will play an important role in supporting SVM's efforts to attract, engage, and retain top talent, directly contributing to the continued growth and success of our organization. This role specializes in recruiting and talent acquisition while also supporting onboarding activities, employee programs, workforce initiatives, and other Human Resources projects as business needs evolve. The HR Specialist serves as a key partner to hiring managers and employees by supporting full-cycle recruiting efforts, building talent pipelines, coordinating hiring activities, and contributing to programs that enhance both the candidate and employee experience.
This is a one-year contract position with the potential to transition into a full-time role based on business needs and individual performance.
What you will do
- Support recruiting efforts for technical and non-technical positions across the organization.
- Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs, role requirements, and candidate qualifications.
- Create and manage job requisitions within applicant tracking systems, job boards, and internal platforms.
- Interview candidates and guide them through the recruiting and selection process.
- Source, network, and build talent pipelines to support current and future hiring needs.
- Prepare and extend candidate offer letters and support offer negotiations as needed.
- Coordinate candidate interviews, communications, and scheduling activities.
- Support career fairs, recruiting events, and workforce development initiatives.
- Assist with conduct candidate reference checks.
- Assist with recruiting programs and initiatives designed to attract, engage, and develop talent.
- Provide backup support for onboarding activities, including new hire documentation, orientation preparation, and onboarding coordination.
- Cross-train in onboarding processes and provide backup support for new hire onboarding activities, including documentation review, orientation preparation, and onboarding coordination.
- Maintain accurate recruiting records, candidate data, and hiring metrics across internal and external systems.
- Ensure recruiting activities comply with applicable employment laws, equal employment opportunity (EEO) requirements, and company policies.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of job descriptions, interview guides, recruiting materials, and related documentation.
- Support Human Resources initiatives, programs, and special projects that contribute to the candidate and employee experience.
- Assist the HR Department with other tasks and special projects as business requires.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field highly preferred.
- 2–3 years of recruiting experience required; experience recruiting for technical positions preferred.
- Experience recruiting within the construction, engineering, or skilled trades industry highly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to effectively understand role requirements and translate them into successful recruiting strategies.
- Strong knowledge of recruiting techniques and applicable employment laws, including EEO, ADA, and other employment regulations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build relationships and establish credibility with candidates, employees, and leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Experience utilizing applicant tracking systems (ATS), HRIS platforms, Viewpoint, or other construction-related software preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and quickly adapt to changing business needs.
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to support projects and programs from planning through implementation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to submit to a comprehensive background check required.
- HR or recruiting certifications are a plus but not required.
Compensation & Company Benefits Include
This is a one-year contract position with the potential for full-time employment at the completion of the contract. Compensation for this role is $75,000 - $95,000 annually and will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall skill set.
