About the Role
We are seeking a part-time Designer to join our team and play a key role in the creative and technical execution of projects from concept through installation. This position requires a highly skilled, detail-oriented designer with at least 6–8 years of professional residential design experience in a design firm.
As a Mid-Level Designer, you will collaborate closely with the Principal, helping to translate the overall design vision into refined concepts, detailed drawings, and beautifully layered interiors. You will manage project details day to day, guide Junior Designers, and coordinate seamlessly with vendors, artisans, and contractors. While design direction comes from the Principal, this role requires a confident, creative partner who can take initiative, elevate ideas, and ensure execution at the highest level.
The ideal candidate is both imaginative and highly organized, with excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of high-end residential design. You thrive in a collaborative studio but are equally capable of managing aspects of projects independently, always with precision and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Principal to develop and execute design concepts from schematic through installation
- Creation of floorplans, elevations, and detailed design documentation
- Prepare and present polished client presentations, contributing creative and strategic input
- Manage sourcing, specification, and procurement of furnishings, finishes, lighting, and materials
- Oversee and mentor Junior Designers, ensuring high-quality drawings, sourcing, and
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, artisans, and contractors
- Coordinate closely with contractors and vendors, resolving design and construction challenges with professionalism
- Oversee installations and ensure final execution reflects the design intent and client expectations
- Maintain organized project documentation and contribute to studio operations as needed
Qualifications
- Degree in Interior Design, Design School, or equivalent professional experience
- 6–8 years of professional residential interior design experience, preferably high-end projects
- Strong portfolio showcasing creativity, technical excellence, and refined design sensibility
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; knowledge of SketchUp, Photoshop, and Illustrator preferred
- Proficiency in Google Workspace; experience with Studio Designer a plus
- Expertise in specifying lighting, furnishings, finishes, hardware, and custom millwork
- Experience preparing budgets, proposals, and purchase orders; strong project management skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to oversee Junior Designers while working independently on complex tasks
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable interfacing directly with clients and contractors
Location
This position is based in the Greater Boston Area, with required in-office time to support collaboration.
