What are the responsibilities and job description for the Varsity Boys Golf Coach position at Suttons Bay Public Schools?
Suttons Bay Public Schools is seeking a Varsity Boys Golf Coach for the 2025–26 school year. Experience coaching golf is preferred, though individuals with strong playing experience will also be considered.
Qualifications
Experience coaching golf preferred
Experience working with high school–aged students
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Performance Responsibilities
Conduct regular practices and off-season conditioning appropriate for golf
Motivate, mentor, and lead student-athletes in a positive and supportive manner
Teach game strategies, course management, proper techniques, and skill development
Demonstrate strong leadership, sportsmanship, and professionalism
Collaborate with the Athletic Director on all matters related to program organization, administration, and philosophy
Adhere to the MHSAA Coaches Guidebook and the Suttons Bay Coaches Handbook
Serve as a positive role model on and off the course
Engage with local golf courses and community programs to support player development and program visibility
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of MHSAA rules, match procedures, coaching best practices, and all aspects of the sport
Communicate effectively with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, budgeting, transportation, and injuries
Communicate effectively with Suttons Bay Athletic Boosters in support of the program
Communicate regularly and positively with parents and the community about program expectations and events
Follow district policies for facility use, transportation, purchasing, and fundraising
Assist the Athletic Director with assigning duties, supervising, and evaluating sub-varsity coaches (if applicable)
Provide proper supervision at all practices, matches, and events until all athletes have left the facilities
Maintain accurate records including rosters, scores, stats, and awards
Recognize and celebrate student-athlete achievements, including organizing banquets, Senior Night, and related events
Uphold high standards for academic eligibility and the holistic well-being of student-athletes
Terms of Employment
Part-time, seasonal athletic position
Compensation based on Schedule B of the SBEA contract
Athletic positions are one-season (school year) appointments and require annual Board of Education approval with positive evaluations
