What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long-Term GSRP Substitute Teacher position at Suttons Bay Elementary School?
Suttons Bay Public Schools is seeking a caring, collaborative, and student-centered Long-Term Substitute Teacher to support our GSRP preschool classroom during a planned leave. This temporary position runs February 17 through March 27, 2026, and offers the opportunity to work with a dedicated early childhood education team.
As part of our early childhood team, the substitute teacher will work closely with our GSRP classroom assistant teacher and support staff. Together, this collaborative team provides a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment aligned with GSRP standards and the whole-child approach.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic early childhood educator who is patient, proactive, and passionate about supporting young learners as they grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Strong communication skills, reliability, and a warm classroom presence are essential. Experience in early childhood settings—or a genuine love for working with preschool-aged children—is highly valued.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and/or valid Michigan teaching certificate preferred

Candidates meeting Michigan requirements for substitute teaching will be considered

Preschool or early childhood classroom experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and positive behavior supports beneficial
Key Responsibilities:

Support and facilitate the daily GSRP classroom routine, including whole-group, small-group, and play-based learning

Implement developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the GSRP curriculum

Promote a nurturing, consistent, and joyful classroom environment

Collaborate with the GSRP team, early childhood staff, and support services to meet student needs

Assist with observational notes and student documentation as required by GSRP

Communicate positively and professionally with families and staff

Maintain confidentiality and uphold district and program standards

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Early Childhood Director and Building Principal
Terms of Employment

Employment will be through ESS/WillSub, unless the candidate is a retiree of a Michigan public school

Compensation follows the district’s substitute pay scale
