DOT Compliance Specialist (Part-Time, Hybrid with Local Travel)

We are a Long Island–based investigative and compliance firm launching a NEW Department of Transportation (DOT) Compliance Division. Because DOT is new for Sutton, we’re looking for a lead compliance professional to help build the program from the ground up—setting standards, advising leadership, and ensuring our clients remain fully DOT compliant.

This role is ideal for an experienced specialist who prefers a hybrid schedule (primarily remote) but is also available for on-site client visits across New York State. Success in this position means building trust with clients, keeping programs audit-ready, and serving as both a technical expert and trusted advisor.

Initially, you’ll manage one primary client account, with a clear path to grow the division and expand the client base over time.

Compensation

$50–$60 per hour, depending on experience; or A salary-based structure for the right candidate and workload.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage end-to-end DOT compliance programs, including Driver Qualification Files (DQFs), FMCSA Clearinghouse queries, random drug & alcohol testing, and medical card renewals.
• Travel to client sites across New York to provide on-site compliance support.
• Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for client questions, concerns, and DOT-related issues.
• Interpret and advise on FMCSA/DOT requirements to keep clients fully compliant and audit-ready.
• Coordinate with medical examiners, laboratories, and third-party providers to support testing and medical certification processes.
• Monitor federal and state regulatory changes, update internal and client policies, and clearly communicate required adjustments.

Qualifications

• Based in New York (or nearby in NJ/CT) and willing to travel across New York State for client meetings and site visits.
• Strong, current working knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations (required).
• Prior hands-on experience managing DOT programs (carrier, fleet operator, or TPA/third-party administrator).
• Confident presenter with excellent client-facing communication skills.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities as the division grows.
• Relevant certifications such as C-SAPA, Designated Employer Representative (DER) training, or other DOT-related credentials are preferred.
