Lead Clinical Lab Scientist

Organization: SEMC - Sutter Eden Medical Center Position Overview: Responsible for daily operations of the assigned department(s), providing diagnostic testing service to inpatient, outpatient or other clients requested by physicians. Plans, coordinates, and manages the department’s daily operation, monthly activities (QA/QC/PI), and annual programs. Schedules, trains, monitors QC/QA, performance improvement, and participates in performance evaluation of the lab staff members, including Clinical Lab Leads and Clinical Lab Technicians assigned to the department(s). Identifies needs and assures that all employees in the department receive regular in-service and education. Provides support and consultation to the staff as needed. Supervises both technical and non-technical employees, and supports the Laboratory Director and other members of the lab management team in achieving the goals of the department and medical center. Assures that all required documentation, especially department’s policies and procedures, is complete, current and easily accessible to the appropriate personnel. Works with the Medical Directors to review, revise, or approve policies or procedures. Reviews QC data and submit to the Medical Director weekly, biweekly, or monthly (depending on the department assigned) as well as all CAP survey results when available. Supports the organization’s effort to improve patient satisfaction. Position is day shift with rotating weekends. Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Lab Sciences, Medical Technology, Biochemistry, Biological Science or a closely related field. Experience Requirement: 5 years of experience as a Clinical Lab Scientist, Medical Technologist, or a closely related occupation. Alternate Education and Experience Requirement: N/A Specific Requirements: Medical technology, laboratory equipment, and procedures; Troubleshoot clinical lab equipment issues and analyze test results;  Evaluate data and draw conclusions; Review QC data and submit results on a regular basis when available; Understand and follow laws and regulations related to safety, data security, and patient privacy;  Perform and analyze tests with precision;  Train and educate staff on testing procedures; Plan, coordinate, and manage a clinical lab’s department’s daily operation, monthly activities (QA/QC/PI), and annual programs (such as CAP surveys or periodic performance review); Evaluate and document competency of their team periodically; Provide input for perform annual performance evaluation of their employees; Monitor and orders supplies and ensure efficient utilization; Participate in long term planning for the laboratory operations; Work closely with physicians, medical staff, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive support for patient care; Contribute to research and process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing laboratory performance, efficiency, and patient outcomes; and Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
