What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Carpenter/Supervisor position at Sutherland Construction?
Sutherland Construction is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to join our establishedteam working on high-quality residential renovations, additions, historic restorations, and remodeling projects throughout the greater Burlington area.
Much of our work involves older Vermont homes, farmhouses, and historic buildings, so we’re looking for someone who understands that old buildings don't always come with straight walls, standard details, or easy answers. Experience with historic restoration and the ability to thoughtfully troubleshoot and adapt existing structures is highly valued.
We’re looking for a well-rounded carpenter who can take ownership of a project and keep things moving. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, leading a small crew, coordinating subcontractors, ordering materials, reading plans, solving problems in the field, and communicating professionally with clients.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of residential construction experience and be proficient in all aspects of construction, from structural framing through high-quality finish carpentry. Attention to detail, reliability, organization, and pride in craftsmanship are important to us.
This is a hands-on position with plenty of responsibility and autonomy. We’re a small, collaborative company and are looking for someone who wants to become an important part of the team and grow with us.
