Role Description This full-time, on-site Mazak Lathe Programmer role is based in Rockford, IL. The Mazak Lathe Programmer will create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for Mazak lathes using Mazatrol and/or G-code to meet production and quality requirements. Daily responsibilities include setting up machines, selecting proper tooling, adjusting feeds and speeds, and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime. The role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate dimensions and tight tolerances. The programmer will collaborate with machinists, supervisors, and quality personnel to improve processes, maintain safety and 5S standards, and support continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor.
Qualifications
- Solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals to support logical problem-solving and structured programming for CNC applications.
- Proficiency in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts to develop, modify, and optimize machine programs and related tools.
- Hands-on experience programming Mazak lathes (Mazatrol and/or G-code), including setup, offsets, and toolpath optimization.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings; strong math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Familiarity with CNC machining processes, tooling selection, materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, alloys), and quality inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Strong attention to detail, safety-minded work habits, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or associate degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or related field preferred.
- Willingness to work on-site in Rockford, IL, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional production and engineering teams.
