Job description:
The ideal Field Inspector will have a firm grasp of all facets of road work. You will thoroughly understand all measurement and payment provisions of contract documents controlling this work. You will perform daily observation and quality assurance of civil infrastructure projects. The ideal Field Inspector will document all material and site conditions and construction activities using real-time data collection tools. You will maintain daily records of as-built conditions and bid item quantities for contractor pay application reviews. The ideal Field Inspector will have the ability to pass criminal background and drug tests and possess a minimum of 5 years of similar construction observation experience, as described herein and have reliable transportation.
DOTD certifications in in Embankment Course, Asphalt Paving, and Structural Concrete is desired but not required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform daily on-site construction observation during active operations
- Verify contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and contract documents
- Monitor roadway construction activities including earthwork, utilities, drainage structures, curb and gutter, concrete, asphalt paving, striping, and signage
- Observe contractor layout, staking, and surveying activities
- Track and verify quantities of materials placed and work completed
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports with photographs
- Prepare weekly progress summaries and documentation as required
- Participate in pre-construction and recurring progress meetings
- Coordinate closely with the Construction Manager, Contractor, and City representatives
- Assist with acceptance inspections, punch lists, and project closeout activities
- Coordinate testing when applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of construction inspection experience
- Experience with roadway, transportation, bridge, or heavy civil infrastructure projects
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Familiarity with surveying practices, testing coordination, and quantity tracking
- Excellent documentation, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to work extended field hours during peak construction periods
Employment Details
- Hourly pay rate: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
- Eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable labor requirements
- Mileage reimbursement available per project policy
- Full-time field assignment for duration of project
