Sustainable Comfort, Inc. (SCI) is a green building and energy efficiency consulting firm specializing in multifamily housing. We partner with development and construction teams across the Northeast to deliver high-performance buildings that meet rigorous energy, sustainability, and affordability standards. Our work spans ENERGY STAR Homes, LEED for Homes, Enterprise Green Communities, Passive House (Phius), HERS Ratings, state incentive programs, and energy code compliance.
We are seeking a Phius Verifier to support and lead Passive House certification efforts across SCI’s multifamily portfolio. This role plays a critical part in guiding projects through design review, verification planning, documentation coordination, and on-site performance testing. The Phius Verifier works closely with internal project managers, raters, designers, and construction teams to ensure projects remain aligned with certification requirements, schedules, and performance goals.
This role is well suited for a technically strong professional who enjoys hands-on involvement while taking ownership of verification workflows, coordination, and quality control across complex multifamily projects.
Key Responsibilities
Review project proposals and develop clear, comprehensive scopes of work for Phius verification activities
Provide accurate time estimates to support project planning, scheduling, and billing coordination
Perform detailed design reviews to evaluate compliance with Phius standards and co-requisite program requirements
Develop and maintain project-specific testing plans aligned with certification milestones
Manage the Phius verification process, including documentation review, submission tracking, and closeout approvals
Coordinate closely with internal project managers to monitor scope, timelines, and change conditions
Support contractor orientations and ongoing coordination to align teams with performance and certification requirements
Maintain organized verification resources, templates, and reference materials to support team consistency
Collaborate with raters and verifiers to ensure consistent QA/QC practices across projects
Support airtightness strategies and testing coordination, working directly with construction teams to resolve issues
Stay current on Phius standards and industry updates and communicate relevant changes internally
Participate in regional meetings, trainings, and conferences related to high-performance building and verification work
Spend approximately 50% of time supporting on-site verification and performance testing activities
Experience contributing to or managing Passive House, HERS, or other green building certification programs
Strong understanding of building science principles, including envelope performance, airtightness, and energy modeling concepts
RESNET HERS Rater Certification (required)
Phius Certified Verifier credential (required)
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex documentation and compliance workflows
Clear and professional communication skills, with comfort working across technical and non-technical teams
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and accuracy
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cloud-based file management systems
Education
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, building science, or a related field; or
Associate’s degree with extensive related experience; or
Significant experience in building construction, performance testing, or verification workflows
Additional Requirements
Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record
Authorization to work in the United States
Willingness to travel to job sites throughout the Northeast, including occasional overnight travel
