General Definition Of Work
Performs complex professional work related to the City's sustainability, resiliency and environmental programs. Responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and/or reporting on the City's sustainability activities, policies and procedures and other work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.
Typical Functions
Creates and updates sustainability and resiliency plans and reports;
Coordinates activities with City departments regarding sustainability policies, programs and initiatives;
Develops educational outreach programs for City residents, businesses and visitors;
Creates website, social media, and other communication content regarding sustainability, resiliency and related topics;
Develops and promotes partnerships with organizations, community groups and outside agencies;
Makes presentations to City staff, community organizations and other agencies;
Develops sustainability and resiliency reporting metrics;
Researches best practices of sustainability and resiliency;
Reviews and makes recommendations regarding the programs and activities of City departments;
Evaluates and benchmarks the City's sustainability practices;
Monitors sustainability and resiliency indicators;
Coordinates sustainability programs and projects;
Provides information regarding sustainable programs to City employees and members of the public;
Keeps abreast of emerging trends, and changes in legislative and technical developments;
Establishes partnerships with schools and educational institutions;
Works with City employees to develop information regarding City sustainability, resiliency and environmental programs.
Researches, identifies and applies for grants and other funding;
Attends and participates in meetings and conferences;
Related Tasks
Serves as liaison to the City's Green Living Advisory Board and other groups;
Participates as a member of the City's Environmental Sustainability Team;
Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of sustainability, resiliency and environmental programs and policies as related to municipal government operations and administration; knowledge of applicable environmental and sustainability laws and regulations; knowledge of the principles and practices of public/government organizations; ability to prepare and present professional, comprehensive written and oral reports and recommendations; ability to analyze and interpret and present data; ability communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees, community groups, agencies, and the general public; ability to develop and implement policies and procedures; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to use website, social media, desktop publishing and other software. The work environment is typically in an office setting, but must have the physical ability walking, standing, pushing, reaching, grasping and occasional lifting up to 20lbs.
Education And Experience
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with major study in environmental, climate or earth science, engineering, sustainability, planning, public administration, or a related field. Master's Degree in Public Administration (MPA) preferred. Must have at least five years of work experience related to sustainability, resiliency, and/or environmental programs of which at least three years of work experience must be in local government.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid State of Florida class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in the last three (3) years.
